I machine appliqued my second block made from
Carolyn Friedlander's Rin quilt pattern. The first one is
here that I made during the Rin Along hosted by Cheryl at
Meadow Mist Designs and Cindy at
Hyacinth Quilt Designs.
When you pull fabric from your stash, does it ever evoke a memory of where you were when you purchased it or possibly who you were with? This certainly happened with me when I was choosing the background fabric for this block. I know exactly where I was. It was 2015 and I was in Austin, TX at my very first
QuiltCon. I had no idea how I would use this fabric, but I knew I wanted some.
Architextures was Carolyn's very first fabric line with Robert Kaufman and this is Ledger in Ivory.
For the rings I'm using another Cotton and Steel print,
Add It Up in Close Your Eyes. Although it reads as solid black from a distance, I just love the little blue plus signs you can see up close.
I did something a little differently this time. I actually cut out the entire outer ring and the outer circle of the inner ring with my 45mm rotary cutter. A few times, I cut a little further than I should have in the V of scallop, but I think it will be fine. You can read all about my fusing process in the
first blog post.
As I have time, I plan to make more blocks. I plan to use all Carolyn Friedlander prints for the background fabrics and will use various blacks from different designers for the rings.
Excited to have one more Rin block done by zig zag satin stitch on the machine, I'm linking to

So pretty Paige. The Rin QAL was so much fun. Your work looks perfect :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right Danice, the QAL was fun! If it hadn't been for the QAL and deciding to do machine applique, I probably would have never tackled the Rin. So glad I did!
DeleteLove your fabric choices, Paige! This is going to be such a striking quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful. I really love that background fabric too. And yes, when I pull fabric from my stash, it often sparks memories of where and when it was purchased.
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric choices for this one!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful block! I love the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting how many details of our lives we forget but I do have memories of when and where I bought certain fabrics. I loved seeing the closeup of the fabrics you bought. The user of this quilt will have some interesting things to see when they are up close and personal with it!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely! I had a jelly roll of Architextures which I have rationed for years.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Paige, and I totally understand what you mean about having memories associated with buying fabric. And what a happy memory to have! I look forward to watching your Rin block collection grow. I really like your plan.
ReplyDeleteThat background fabric is so much fun, Paige, and it ties in so well with the black/blue fabric. I don't have memories with all my fabric purchases, but I do have some. Thanks for posting another Rin block; I was just thinking about the QAL the other day and realized I missed seeing more of the blocks!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteThis block is looking great Paige! I love the effect of the zig zag stitch. I don't have many memories of fabric purchases (mostly on-line since Australian prices are so high), although I sometimes think about the abandoned project they were supposed to be for!
ReplyDeleteHi Paige,
ReplyDeleteWow - I have never seen these fabrics before and I just love them! Especially the ledger one. Well, the black with the plus signs is pretty darn cool too, and it goes so well with the ledger fabric. It's a little surprise when you get close enough to see the plus signs. ~smile~ Roseanne
I really love your fabric choice Paige ! This is going to be a beautiful project.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Paige. I love your fabrics, you have a great eye for colour.
ReplyDeletePaige, I love this version of the Rin QAL block. I so love some of Carolyn's fabrics and you did an excellent job on your block!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, Paige! Those fabrics look great together. Yes, I frequently have memories tied to fabric and that generally includes where I bought it, who I was with, circumstances, etc. Great that you have good memories with this one!
