For my second entry in the Blogger's Quilt Festival into the mini category, I've chosen Plus Me + You. It is definitely small, measuring only 12½" x 12½" and is made from 4 Outlined Plus blocks using Hoffman Me + You Indah batiks.

In my original post here, I mention drafting the 6" block in EQ7 so I could achieve sharp points with paper piecing rather than traditional piecing.

The quilting was done with the walking foot on my Bernina 153 Quilters Edition using Aurifil 5022 (Mustard). I quilted diagonally from corner to corner with the lines crossing. From there, I echoed from those two starting lines.

I used one of the Indah batiks for the backing and the binding is ¼" double fold bias sewn down by hand. Oops! I still need to make the label!

- Thread: Aurifil black for for piecing and 5022 mustard for quilting
- Batting: 100% Cotton Warm & Natural by the Warm Company
- Completed: May 31, 2016

ReplyDeleteDrafting a paper piecing pattern was a smart idea, especially for a mini where there's no room for any inaccuracies. Great choice of quilting too.
ReplyDeleteThis was the perfect design to allow those fabrics to shine! And the quilting is the perfect compliment!
ReplyDeleteI like how the quilting puts the plus sign on point to make an X shape, and the mustard color of the quilting also draws out the outline of each plus block. I definitely remember this quilt but not that each block only finished at 6"! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Paige. I love the clean lines and the quilting that you chose to use. I have had very little experience with paper piecing ( I think just one block?) but it seems 'doable' to me with a project like this. I am taking a class that uses paper piecing in a month or so and look forward to it -- it will hopefully take some of the mystery out of it for me!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely mini quilt Paige. I like how you used the yellow thread to quilt it accentuating the yellow in the outlines. Great fabric choices too.
